A Summer at RQ Floors
This summer at RQ, while navigating the COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to create a virtual internship program. A first for RQ, it was an honor and a pleasure to expand our family and take in a few interns to teach them about the hardwood flooring industry and how it can apply to their professional goals & personal development. Throughout the process, they learned so much about what we do here at RQ Floors, and we learned so much about them!
As our first summer program concludes this month, we want to thank them for the incredible effort they put forth. We set goals together and we overachieved on so many tasks. They are rockstars and deserve every ounce of recognition.
Here’s what they had to share about their summers at RQ.
Meet Dana, Our Social Media Intern.
“My name is Dana and I am a current intern at RQ Floors. Being a part of this company has prompted me to think differently about the compositions of a house: My family has been house searching and it has been almost a natural instinct of mine to look at the floor as soon as I enter a house. When walking up the marble stairs of one particular house, my grandma almost slipped and claimed that it was very difficult to walk on. In comparison, we have wood floors at our current house. This led me to think about how important flooring is and how different materials can be life changing - especially for the elderly. Perhaps we should all take a step back and not ONLY think about what’s “aesthetically pleasing” for the present but rather ask ourselves what is ALSO sustainable, reliable, and presentable for generations.”
Meet Stacy, Our Marketing Intern.
“My name is Stacy and this summer I’m interning at RQ Floors. Throughout my time working for RQ, I’ve realized just how integral quality floors are to a home. My grandfather was a builder, and because he passed away before I was born, I never really gave his profession much thought. After learning more about the process of building and designing homes in these past weeks, I’ve started to think about how meaningful his work truly was. People move in and out of homes, furniture and decor change over the years, but the foundation and integrity of a house can last for generations. Maybe a family is walking on the same wood floors that my grandfather picked out for a home so many years ago. In choosing high-quality wood floors for your home, you’re creating a legacy. When designing a space, think about how you can have an impact for years to come. Your vision and creativity can leave a personal touch in a way that you may never have even considered.”
Meet Isha, Our Marketing Research Intern.
“Hey everyone! My name is Isha Salvi and I’m interning at RQ Floors this summer. About a year ago, my family decided to remodel our home, and at the time, I did not realize how important it was to pay careful attention to our floors. A year later, I’ve learned that there is so much thought that goes into choosing the perfect hardwood floors for my home, and RQ Floors helped me see how beneficial it is to work with a company that has such an in depth expertise like them to get the best quality, and best looking floors. RQ Floors is a company that strives to go above and beyond- a value that resonates with me in all aspects of my life. I love working with so many hardworking individuals that settle for nothing less than perfection, as reflected in all of RQ’s projects!”
Meet Yuki, Our Graphic Design Intern.
“Hi, my name is Yuki. I’m a graphic design intern at RQ floors. As a designer, I am a visual animal. I care about how different texture and medium interact with each other. Before I came to RQ Floors, I never really paid attention to the floor since it is on the ground. However, I realized how important it is to choose the right floor because it is the largest furnished area of any space. A floor can set the undertone for interior design, whether it is modern, traditional, or close to nature. By choosing a nice floor, you can elevate your taste and build a good foundation for your dream house.”
Meet Diana, Our Interior Design Intern.
My name is Diana, and I'm one of the design interns for RQ Floors this summer. I also design my own furniture, and the "crash course" on wood I've gotten through RQ has helped me in my practice. I'm learning how color, texture, grain, and grade come together in a piece to create a certain mood. For example, my latest furniture design is a rocking chair for my family's front porch in Savannah, GA. As I started to draw and select materials, I was stuck on which wood to use. I knew the chair needed to be light enough to move around, colorful enough to stand out in its subtropical surroundings, and waterproof enough to withstand the summer rain showers and humidity. My work at RQ helped me decide on a wood--character grade, plain-sawn white oak! The chair is made from steam-bent wood and stained with natural indigo, a crop that grows in the marshes near Savannah.
We had such an amazing time getting to know these individuals this summer and look forward to expanding the RQ Family again!
